UA BookStores is a collection of five on-campus and five off-campus locations in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Although UA BookStores serves primarily the students, faculty and staff attending or employed by The University of Arizona, we also serve a large proportion of the Tucson and Southern Arizona communities and online customers from across the globe. Personal Information Collected

UA BookStores recognizes the need for customers to control the use and management of personal information, particularly in the online environment given the dangers of personal identification theft and credit card fraud that has menaced our communities this last decade. By "personal information" we mean information that can be used to identify or contact an individual. This includes a first and last name, a physical address, an email address, a student ID number, or a phone number. In addition to customer information, we collect payment (credit card) information, which may be distinguished as different.

If you are visiting our site to browse merchandise or to find information about our business or our products, you do not need to provide any personal information. If you decide to make an online purchase, however, we do collect this information so that we can provide you with the product or service you requested, and so that we can contact you with information regarding your order. Please rest assured that UA BookStores has implemented every security measure necessary to attain level SAC-C PCI compliance as required by law.

Automatic Information Collected

Our website makes use of various technologies to collect information about types and versions of internet browsers used when accessing our website. This information, and information about internet IP addresses, as well as date and time web pages are visited are stored in various security and traffic logs. Our service provider reviews these logs, using statistical analysis, in an effort to track and predict traffic patterns and estimate resource needs. Unless we are tracking down a technical problem, or we suspect either fraudulent behavior or illegal conduct, we do not trace specific user sessions.

Information Collected from User Accounts

UA BookStores online customers will have an opportunity to provide user account information including their first and last name, email address, shipping and billing addresses, credit card information and other potentially sensitive personal information. This information is stored safely on secure servers and will only be used to fulfill the delivery of online purchases or marketing communication as requested by the user. Credit card information provided on the UA BookStores website is protected by stringent security requirements in accordance with SAC-C PCI compliance regulations and is inaccessible to any UA BookStores employee. The customer will always have the option to edit any of the personal information provided in their account profile and to modify their personal information—including details regarding opt-in email communication from UA BookStores. In some isolated cases, UA BookStores personnel may access the account to modify the content at the user's request. Other instances where UA BookStores personnel may need to access a users account include; modifying a customer's loyalty points, accessing purchasing history to re-printing receipts, to confirm an online purchase, or to troubleshoot delivery problems associated with an online order.

Information Collected from Contest Entry Forms

UA BookStores frequently uses giveaways to incetivize our customers to subscribe to our opt-in email list. To qualify for the contest, customers may be asked to complete a physical or online subscription form requesting personal information such as first and last name, email address, phone number and information relevant to the individuals personal interests. UA BookStores uses this information to discern the customer's individual interests and to send promotional communication that mirrors such interests. This technique is used in an effort to minimize unwanted email communication to our valued customers. In such instances, personal information is transferred to a secure online database until the user opts out of receiving email communication via a small link at the bottom of our email communication. Entry forms are stored securely for a short time and subsequently destroyed and recycled. At no point will we share, sell or trade our customer's personal information with a third party.

Personal Information Use

UA BookStores uses personal information provided by you so that we can service your order. Also note that we may need to transfer that information to our agents or employees of our service providers. For example, we may need to provide your address to a wholesaler or shipping company that will ship a product directly to you. We will only transfer the information to the extent necessary to provide the requested information, service, or product to you. We will not sell or trade your personal information to unrelated third parties. When you submit an order, you will receive an emailed confirmation from our system. As your order status changes, you may also receive notifications via email. These notifications are considered part of our service and may not be disabled. We may also periodically send you email notifications concerning products or services offered by the UA BookStores. Any such notification will include instructions for opting out of future mailings. Third Party Use

We do partner with third parties to provide a diverse array of products and services. When you request such services or products we may share required personal information that is necessary for the third party to provide the product or service to you. It is also against our policy to sell or trade information collected online without customer consent. We may, however, release personal information if we are legally required to do so. If we are legally compelled to release information to a third party, the UA BookStores, may or may not notify you of this release. Notification will be at the discretion of the UA BookStores, and will be based upon the nature and conditions surrounding the release of information.

Information Control

Your customer profile is accessible from our website, and you may update it at anytime. Our website provides you with the ability to change your phone numbers, physical addresses, email address and information stored in your profile. You may also write to us at the address listed at the bottom of this policy to request that we make a change for you.

Children

The UA BookStores’ website is targeted to college students and as such is not meant to attract children. We do not intend to collect personal information from anyone we know to be under thirteen years of age. If you are the parent or guardian of a child under thirteen years of age and believe that your child has disclosed personally identifiable information to us, please contact us so that we may remove the child’s information.

Supplemental Technologies

Our website uses cookies, session identifiers, JavaScript™, and browser detection technology to provide customers with a more pleasant online experience. Many browsers provide customers with the ability to disable some or all of these technologies. Disabling them, especially in the case of JavaScript™, may prevent you from viewing some web pages. Confidentiality & Security

The UA BookStores take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is protected. On our website, we use industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption when collecting your personal information. Our website is hosted in a data center which makes use of multiple levels of redundant firewalls and database encryption to protect information. Internally, we limit access to your information to those employees or agents who we believe have reasonable need to use the information to provide products or services to you, or to perform their jobs.

Notifications

When your order is placed on our website, we will send you an email notification. When your order status changes, you may also receive notifications via email. These notifications are considered as part of our service and may not be disabled. We will send the email, but we cannot guarantee delivery. You are responsible for providing a valid email address and for updating it when your address changes. UA BookStores may, depending upon the importance and urgency of the notification, choose to contact you via telephone or postal mail. When doing so, we will use the phone number and/or address associated with your account or transaction.

History

UA BookStores first established a Privacy Policy in 1996. We periodically make modifications to the policy to reflect additions or changes to our practices. You may review the current policy at anytime by returning to this web page. This policy was last changed on October 28, 2011.

Compliance

This privacy policy is in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Policy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), and follows the E-Commerce Best Practices Guide. There is very little legislation written, in general or specific to the State of Arizona, that applies to college bookstores or companies that service the college store industry.
